Beta-Carotene

An important Carotene

Overview

Product Details

Beta-Carotene is a plant pigment that gives red, orange, and yellow vegetables their vibrant color (most famously carrots); however, we source ours from Blakeslea Trispora, a healthy type of fungus. If you have a 10-step skincare routine, you may be more familiar with it than you know. When ingested, this carotenoid converts to vitamin A, a powerful retinoid and antioxidant with a unique ability to ward off the harmful effects of free radicals. Additionally, Beta-Carotene has been shown to support healthy cardiovascular and immune systems, better cognitive function and promote skin and eye health.

Health Associations

Skin Health

Beta-Carotene’s antioxidant qualities are particularly advantageous for the skin. It helps maintain skin health and diminish signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines, by scavenging free radicals, reducing oxidative stress, and may mitigate the detrimental effects of excessive sun exposure. Additionally, it promotes skin cell turnover, resulting in a smoother and more radiant complexion.

Immunity

Ever heard the phrase “the skin is the biggest organ of the body”, well it is. It is also often the first line of defense to pathogens.

Beta-Carotene, being a precursor of Vitamin A, contributes to immune system health by preserving the integrity of the skin and mucous membranes.

Eye Health

One of the most intriguing aspects of Beta-Carotene is its potential to be converted into vitamin A within the body.

Vitamin A is essential for maintaining healthy vision, especially in low-light conditions. It functions as a light-sensitive pigment in the retina, facilitating night vision and overall visual acuity.

Heart Health

Research suggests that a diet rich in Beta-Carotene and other carotenoids may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The antioxidant properties of Beta-Carotene are believed to contribute to this protective effect
