DHA/Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). There are 3 main types of omega-3 fatty acids, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) alpha linolenic acid (ALA). The body metabolizes ALA into DHA and EPAat a rate of approximately 8% and 0-4%, respectively. Fish oil is a good source of both DHA and EPA. Accordingly, many food and supplement manufacturers wish to use a fish oil source of omega-3 fatty acids.
