加齢黄斑変性症（AMD）は、高齢者において失明を引き起こす最も一般的な疾患の一つです。AMDの進行は、網膜色素上皮（RPE）細胞における抗炎症作用および抗酸化作用によって防ぐことができる可能性があります。カロテノイドの一種であるリコピンは、抗酸化作用と抗炎症作用の両方を有することが示されています。本研究は、リコピンで処理したRPE細胞におけるこれらの作用メカニズムを詳細に解明することを目的として実施されました。
