We tend to associate carotenoids with hearty veggies, but astaxanthin is most commonly found in shrimp, salmon, and even healthy algae. (We source ours from bright red haematococcus pluvialis.) Like its other colorful cousins, this pigment has been linked to healthy cardiovascular and immune systems. Even more exciting? Its potential effect on the aging process. Because it can fight off oxidative damage so effectively, it is thought that it may be able to temper the likelihood of common age-related diseases1 and as a result slow the aging process.2
