Lutein
The power of a single flower.
Overview
Product Overview
Lutein, an antioxidant abundantly found in flowers such as marigold petals (Tagetes erecta), supports the body’s natural antioxidation and anti-inflammation responses, thus helping to reduce free radicals that cause retinal injury. Research has demonstrated that lutein is crucial for enhancing eye health by providing a yellow filter that absorbs blue light in the retina, promoting macular wellness and improving glare recovery.
Additionally, studies have shown that lutein increases the accumulation of pigment in the macula, thereby increasing its density. This capability is linked to enhancing ocular function and mitigation of the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Furthermore, Lutein has shown favorable outcomes in promoting brain health and skin health as well.

Lutein HZ's Synergy
Blue Light Filtering & Glare Sensitivity Reduction
Lutein-HZ offers targeted protection against digital eye strain and blue light-induced oxidative stress, a growing concern in today’s screen-centric lifestyles. With its optimized blend of lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin, Lutein-HZ mimics the natural distribution of carotenoids in the macula, enhancing its blue light filtration capacity. This is particularly relevant for digital device users exposed to high-energy visible (HEV) light, which penetrates deep into retinal tissue.
Recent randomized controlled trials in high-frequency screen users demonstrate that daily supplementation with Lutein-HZ significantly improves both objective and subjective measures of visual comfort during prolonged digital device use. Clinically, supplementation has been shown to increase macular pigment optical density (MPOD), accelerate visual recovery after exposure to bright light, enhance contrast sensitivity, and improve tear film stability, all key factors in alleviating screen-induced symptoms such as fatigue, dryness, and blurred vision.
Notably, these effects are especially pronounced in individuals with a low baseline MPOD, affirming the unique value of a balanced carotenoid formulation for reducing digital glare and optimizing central retinal protection. Collectively, this body of evidence underscores the role of Lutein-HZ supplementation in reducing ocular strain, reinforcing blue light defense mechanisms, and supporting visual performance under the demands of modern screen exposure.
Compared to standard lutein, Lutein-HZ achieves greater improvements in macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and faster onset of glare resilience due to its higher central retinal deposition. This makes it especially beneficial for screen-heavy lifestyles, athletes, and aging populations susceptible to HEV-induced phototoxicity.
Lutein for Healthy Vision & Ocular Resilience
Lutein is a xanthophyll carotenoid highly concentrated in the macular region of the retina, where it plays an essential role in protecting visual cells from oxidative stress and high-energy light exposure. It acts as a natural blue light filter, reducing the phototoxic impact of sunlight and artificial light on retinal tissue. As a powerful antioxidant, lutein quenches singlet oxygen and neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby maintaining the integrity of the retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptor cells.
Mechanistically, lutein supports visual performance by preserving macular pigment optical density (MPOD), improving contrast sensitivity, reducing glare, and enhancing light/dark adaptation. It also modulates inflammatory pathways, reducing local expression of NF-κB and proinflammatory cytokines, which are implicated in the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Human trials, including the landmark AREDS2 study, demonstrate that supplementation with 10–20 mg/day of lutein and zeaxanthin reduces the risk of late-stage AMD progression by up to 25%. Additional studies confirm that lutein intake improves MPOD, visual acuity, and glare tolerance in both healthy and high-risk populations. Evidence also supports lutein’s ability to preserve lens transparency and reduce the risk of cataract formation through antioxidant mechanisms.
