3 ways Lycored centers sustainability in its Holistic Production

Since its start, Lycored has found wonder and connection with nature and the beauty it provides. This connection runs deeper than sharing the beautiful colors, tastes, textures, and phytonutrients found in nature; it’s a connection that guides our innovation to explore what else nature has to offer while caring for the planet through sustainability to foster beauty and growth for years to come. Nature is where we harvest our strength.

It all starts with a seed…

Lycored doesn’t use just any tomatoes. We use proprietary breeds – with our red tomato 4 times richer in lycopene than standard tomatoes you’ll find at the grocery store and our golden tomato created specifically for its natural phytonutrients perfectly suited for skin health and wellness. Not only do we optimize the seed selection, but we begin our plants in greenhouses allowing us to nurture these delicate seedlings in ideal conditions to create strong, hardy plants that are then transplanted to our fields until its time to harvest. Coupled with an advanced irrigation system, this process improves water efficiency and nutrient loss.

The process not only provides an ideal growing ground for tomatoes, it also keeps and takes as little from the soil as possible. Because one harvest isn’t enough to help feed the planet every year, protecting resources for the future is how Lycored keeps sustainability at the center of our processes.

Nothing goes to waste

After our luscious tomatoes have soaked in the sun of California and Israel and been harvested, the tomatoes are sorted and washed. Their skins, stems and seeds are then removed and repurposed into the agricultural industry. So nothing goes to waste.

You may think: “Tomato skin, can’t be that big of a deal! It’s biodegradable.”. And it is. But keep in mind that manufacturing waste represents a very important amount of our world’s waste production. Our earth is a beautiful provider, but we can’t expect to get rid of tons of tomato skins the same way we get rid of it in our kitchen, sustainably.

To limit our landfill impact, we make sure to think twice before putting it in the trash… Very big trash.

Mechanical separation

We use mechanical crushing, deaeration, cooling, and heating to separate the fiber tomato pulp (for our Lycofibers and Tomato oleoresin used for color and nutrient solutions ) and liquid serum (for SANTE and our Clear Tomato Concentrate). We realize there is a tremendous demand from consumers for end products that are sustainably made and contain naturally derived ingredientsAnd while we do not sell finished products, our mission aligns with this cultural shift and strive to make purchasing choices easier by keeping our products as close to their natural composition and maximum potency as possible.

More to come

Lycored is also fully conscious that our production isn’t the only way we can contribute to more sustainability in the world.  Through ideas generated by our team, we’re always building on sustainable practices to complement our holistic production process with everyday opportunities like:

  • Digital documents system
  • Transition to only reusable cups in all of our kitchens by mid-year
  • Paper recycling
  • Energy-saving, motion-activated lights in public areas
  • Digital marketing brochures

Our journey toward sustainability is continuous and we are always looking for ways to improve.
